Risk It is human to make a mistake.
It is possible to suggest that what defines the human being as human, as distinct from other life forms, is the capacity to error, to make mistakes, to fail. Philosopher of science, Georges Canguilhem, has commented upon the analogy between human evolution and error, that in the evolutionary process change is linked to chance and failure; i.e. that it is when the reproduction of the genome fails, when there is an error in represksentation, that a new code is produced, that mutation occurs, and, thus, that new life forms emerge. He continues to suggest that, as a consequence, human life as such must be characterized not only by truth and precision, advance and consolidation, but also by the possibility and capacity to error, failure, incompleteness, indecision, doubt and imperfection.
